The
Costa del Sol stretches along just over 150
kilometres of Málaga province and is
one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations.
Mild weather and beautiful beaches make for
a wide variety of outdoor activities. The eastern
region abounds with cliffs and intricate cave
structures- the Nerja Caves, a spectacular find
that is open to the public and that hosts an
annual music and dance festival within its famous
caverns. The western region has a 100km coastline
stretching from the city to.
Cádiz province. The region is well developed
in terms of infrastructure and property, the
city of Málaga is the capital of the
province with the International airport 6km
to the west. The N340 backbone coast highway
accommodates all traffic to and from the city.
The two airports on the Costa del Sol are at
Gibraltar and Málaga. Málaga airport
(www.aena.es)
schedules both charter and commercial flights
from most Spanish and European cities. Arriving
tourists may avail of the train service, with
the station just outside the international terminus,
or the coach service from Málaga to Marbella
bus station. Gibraltar airport is small by comparison
to most but has a shop and an information centre.
Taxis can be found directly outside the terminal
building, as can the bus stop for buses to the
city centre.
